Founded in 1972 by members from the legendary Chrysler Highlanders Band. The Celtic Pipes and Drums Band is committed to promoting the traditions music of the Great Highland Bagpipes. The band has been honored to play for governors, presidents, princes and other dignitaries. Though having competed in the past, the band is now primarily non-competition oriented, playing for parades, concerts and special events in Metro Detroit and Southeast Michigan. Currently the band has 23 members.
There are no auditions, though there are tune requirements for all members - pipers and drummers alike. Private lessons can be arranged. Uniforms are provided, as are the drums (pipers supply their own pipes). The band will issue a chanter to those pipers ready for the street.
For more information for joining or hiring the band please call 248-684-2822 or email karenplewtait@gmail.com.
Practices are held at Lunghamer Chevrolet in Waterford, Michigan, most Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, weather permitting.
Feel free to stop by any time, although you may wish to call the Pipe Major at 248-684-2822 before doing so to insure there will be practice that week.
